What are you?

"None of your business."

What is going on here?

"Nothing."

How do I get out of here?

"Without matching the proper color frequencies, you go nowhere."

And how do I match the color frequencies?

"Use the glass orb you have to change each frequency, until you get the proper match."

Have I soluced the puzzle yet?

"No. You have two properly set, but three frequencies are still incorrect."

What the heck is that supposed to mean?

"Nothing."

Please, just let me get out of here!

"Well... If you give up all your amulets, I might be able to bend the rules a bit."

This is senseless. I'm leaving.

"You are not going anywhere. Nonetheless, go ahead and try. Good luck."





Conversation with the Alter-Ego of Kali (downstairs Isle 2).


"Welcome, welcome. I'm always happy to receive visitors. Stay and talk with me for a while, I enjoy good company."

Who are you? What are you doing here?

"I am Kali, keeper of this land. I have been given this noble position by my eternal master, Mastaba The Great. Perhaps you have met me in the Land of time."

"There I am also a keeper, but that life is more cruel than this one.

What do you know about this place?

"I know much about this land. This is the Land without time, a place of serenity for the resting of my master. Shall I tell you the story of Mastaba, and his wondrous achievements?"

I would be interested to hear that story.

"Excellent. I do love telling this tale. It's my life, and yours at well."

"Once long ago, Mastaba was a great ruler. Everyone loved and cherished him, and praised the achievements in science he has made. His exploits were far accross the land"

"He had developed the small kingdoms into noble houses and mighty fortresses, and asked for very little in return. Life became easier to bear, and everyone was happy."

And then what happened?

"Well, it was the ignorance of others that caused Mastaba to learn to hate this land and it's people. The thankless nature of the people caused his achievements to be exploited, and used for misguided purposes."

"Mastaba had been experimentating with time, and it's effects on the environment. Angry and hurt, he began to construct a device that would keep him young until this hurtful age had passed."

Is that what the Clockwork Isle is?

"You are correct. The Clockwork Isle was a glorious achievment. It's ability to refract and distort time to create this realm of timelessness still works to this day."

"Mastaba had a wife, who gave hime two sons, Sorodin and Tylus. When they were very young, their mother vanished one day, never to be heard again."

"Mastaba had planned to take her with him, to await another age."

"Being so young and without proper guidance, the sons pratically raised themselves. Mastaba had no time to care for them properly, with his work being so complicated."

"One cruel day, while Mastaba was testing the container, the sons managed to imprison him in his device. Being too weak from his invocations to resist, Mastaba remained imprisoned."

What happened to his sons?

"The two boys grew to manhood, abusing the powerful devices their father had created, until they became defilers in the truest sense. They left the island for further mischiefs, and are probably still causing trouble today."

"Mastaba has been grievously wronged. I would release him from his prison myself, if I had the ability. Perhaps you might be able to do so. I am certain that he will reward you for your kindness."

"This is all I know of the story of Mastaba. Someday the great man will return, and once again bring peace to Athas."





Conversation with the Alter-Ego of the Watcher of Time (Isle 3).


Of course you have noticed some little changes on isle 3, as the 3 little stones that were on South have disapeared and there are now 4 huge stones and the Watcher of Time.

"The still of the dead is disrupted. Garulfo arrives with the life and warmth."

"Nothing happens here, as everything is dead. Yet here comes Garulfo with open arms, to rescue me from nothingness."

I have met your alter-presence.

"Loneliness is something even the timeless never find comfortable. I am glad that you have come. Perhaps sometime I can help you, in return of your visitation."

Can you give me any advice?

"What is the advice that you seek?"

I have heard that you can aid my quest.

"You wish to be the Hero. Here is where you will be the Hero, but not without the actions of the Fool. The Fool must come before the Hero, to release the evils upon Athas. Only then I can truly help you."

How does one become the Fool?

"The Fool is unaware of the actions performed. In order to be the Fool, you must know that you are in fact the Fool."

"The Fool knew none of the answers to the questions asked, but will walk in ignorant bliss nonetheless."

"The figurines need to join their companions before the Hero or the Fool accomplished their tasks. Only after the figurines were added will the Fool truly be able to exist."

I just don't understand.

"And so it should be. If you knew all of what happened in that dark age, you might wish you lacked such knowledge. The dark age to come is inevitable; all was revealed at the appropriate time."

"Do not dispair, for you will find the answers looked for. If all answers were known, life should be meaningless and uneventful. Mystery takes time to flow freely, without it there is no time. Here, all mystery is gone."

You have been here too long.

"I have never been here. I do not exist anywhere, as I exist everywhere. Perhaps one days you too will understand all concept of time. It is not an easy knowledge to bear, you understand."

"From here I see your past: Warm waters, flowing life still yet to become self-aware. Battles in the sub-conscious mind, before life truly begins."

"From here I see your future: Wasted lands, wars that will never end. Battles in the sub-conscious mind, after life truly ends. Perhaps you have always known; perhaps you never will. This is the way of things."

"And alas, now there is no more time. I have told you all you should know. You must leave soon, as there is not much time left for you, either."



Random voices that "drift accross the stillness, barely audibles"


"Ohhh, the power is strong in this child. My darloing, come here so I can ssensse you better. Come to me, darling"

"Help me! Help me, can you hear me? Help, please help me..."

"Darling, come to me, I neeed to feeel your presence. Come here, come close to me darling."

"When I was your age, we didn't wander around backin' things apart! You let youth run amok and what do you get? Hah!"

"Someone's coming, mommy. I can't find you, where are you?"

"Now now, slow down, don't run in the house. You kids will be the death of me".

"Now, don't you know a temper tantrum? I'm talking to you! You kids, you never listen anymore."

"Someone has stolen something from you. They are near, but will only be for so long. Find them!"

"All right, kids, it's dinnertime! Come sit down, and I'll be there in a minute."

"Don't you get uppity with me, you whippersnapper! I've broken babes twice your size, and don't hink I'll go easy on you, either!"

"Hey now, don't you go playing with that sharp thing! You give that to me this instant!"

"You oughtta stop doing that, it'll make you go blind! You young ones have no idea what you're dealing with."

"Now what did I tell you? What did I tell you? Why weren't you paying attention? Now, go clean up. It's almost suppertime."

And here are the best ones:

"The only way to survive is to leave your most magical item here. Otherwise you will never find what you are looking for."

"The next man you will meet will be your demise. Kill this man before he can kill you. Don't say you weren't warned..."

"Listen, all your friends are possessed. I'm telling you, you must kill them before it's too late! It's the only way to save their lives!!!"
