Thieves' quests aren't very difficult, they are rather similar to errands,
just a little more risky as you can be arrested... But you can have lots
of money and magic weapons! Also, don't fear to be arrested, you will not
be wiped or killed for thievery (it's not like using magic!). You will
only have a 4.500 CPs penalty, so go ahead, rob everything around!
Important note : It seems that some thieves have been wiped and banned of Tyr for thievery, so be carefull, specially in House Vordon... Maybe it's a new thing since 1.6 upgrade?
To join the Thieve's Guild, enter the Sitting Lounge in Shadow Square and talk to Kaima, the owner (don't use magic in the Sitting Lounge, you'll be arrested). When you are about to leave, she'll ask if you want to meet some "new friends" (you must be a thief, of course). Then go close to the South wall and try to sneak behind a table, you will find yourself in some corridor. Follow that "corridor" then look at a hidden panel in the wall and you'll end in the thieve's lair, where you'll find some people that you already know...
You can have some "assignments" here, but I recommend that you don't try anything if you are below level 10... I'm not sure of what can improve your skills. According to regular AD&D, there is a base given by the thief's level, and then modifiers related to race (halfling and elves being the best), dexterity, and maybe also armor you wear, etc. But Actually, the percentage of success seems to be only related to level. Too'lane had 23 dexterity in Chaos world, and he was arrested often, when in Law world he has only 18 and he rules!
Brother gives assignements which are more and more interesting (and risky) with your experience. I'm not certain of the exact order... Here they are:
The interesting thing is that you keep what you have robbed. It's a good
way to get lots of cash, if you sell all the jewelry and magic you have
found. I recommend that you sell the magic at Marcus or at Nomad Trader
in Altaruk. Plute will offer similar prices, but it's risky to sell magic
in Tyr... Who said that crime doesn't pay?
Each time you want to enter the Thieve's Guild, you'll have to talk to Kaima and pay a fee, else you can't enter. Good luck!
